Excursions

Optional excursions have been planned for the 2012 ARBCA GA. Transportation to/from all destinations is included in the price.  Attendees will depart PVBC at 1pm and return by 4:45pm. You may sign up for excursions when you register. Space is limited.

Tuesday, April 17, 1:00pm-6:00pm   "Jonathan Edwards Yale\ New Haven Tour

-No admission cost

 

This tour will be a once in a life time opportunity to spend one hour under the guidance of a Jonathan Edwards manuscript expert, seeing some original manuscripts and other materials of Jonathan Edwards at the Yale’s Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library in New Haven, CT. This is a specially arranged tour for the ARBCA GA, which is not available to the public. There will be no handling of the material or any cameras, including cell phones allowed inside the viewing area. Because of the limited space in the viewing room, there is a limit of 22 people for this tour.  Because of the traffic on the return trip, the Theological Discussion will be missed.

 

Tuesday, April 17, 1:00pm-4:45pm   "Yankee Candle Flagship Store\Magic Wings Butterfly Conservatory"

Yankee Candle Store: Free           Magic Wings Butterfly Conservatory: $12- Adult,+ $8 Child (3-17), $10 Senior (62+)

     

This trip will be take place on the same day as the Yale trip. There will be a stop at the Yankee Candle Flagship Store, with an optional trip to the Magic Wings Butterfly Conservatory.   

Wednesday, April 18, 1:00pm-4:45pm   "Jonathan Edwards\Calvin Coolidge Presidential Museum Northampton Tour"

 -No admission cost

          

This tour will include a stop to see the gravesite of the missionary David Brainerd and some of the family graves of the Jonathan Edwards family. The other tour stop is at the Forbes Library in Northampton, MA. Guided by an expert staff library employee, the group will be given a specially prepared viewing of some original Jonathan Edwards\Stoddard materials. Included in this material is the letter written by Jonathan Edwards to Eleazar Wheelock, where he mentions the future coming of George Whitefield to Northampton. There will be no handling of this material or picture taking (including cell phone pictures) of this material. As part of this viewing, the Calvin Coolidge Presidential Museum will be available for browsing. Because of the limited space in the viewing room, there is a limit of 54 people for this tour.

Thursday, April 19, 1:00pm-4:45pm   "Jonathan Edwards\Asahel Nettleton  South Windsor\Enfield Tour"

-No admission cost

This tour will include a stop to see the stone marker on the site of the preaching of Jonathan Edwards famous sermon “Sinners In The Hands Of An Angry God” in Enfield, CT.  There will be a visit the gravesite of the Timothy and Esther Edwards, the parents of Jonathan and well as the marker on the site of the Edwards house. Other graves which will be seen include the graves of Asahel Nettleton, famous preacher during the second great awakening, and Bennet Tyler, president of the Theological Institute of Connecticut. The houses of Nettleton and Tyler will be seen from the outside only. 

Friday, April 20, All Day Tour   "Plimoth Plantation, Mayflower II, and Plymouth Rock"

Admission: Adult - $29.50, Child (6-12) - $19.00, Senior (62+) - $26.50

 

The Plimoth Plantation, Mayflower II, and Plymouth Rock trip will be an all day trip on the Friday after the GA is done. The trip will include a visit to the Plymouth Rock, the Mayflower II, and the Plimoth Plantation. If there is enough interest, a bus will be provided by the church, otherwise there will be carpooling.
